Thermal Management by Hirschvogel

Thermal management in battery electric vehicles plays a crucial role. It keeps the electric motor, power electronics, and battery within an optimum temperature range, thereby ensuring their long-term functionality and high performance efficiency.

In particular, the large thermal loads generated in traction inverters need to be dissipated via suitable cooling systems. The forged heat sinks from Hirschvogel are made of wrought aluminum alloys and copper. Thanks to their high thermal conductivity combined with very good mechanical properties, they contribute to effective cooling of these power modules.

Depending on customer requirements, the components are cold or hot forged. Cold forging ensures precise dimensions, individual pin geometries, thin walls, and an increase in strength. Hot forging is suitable for geometrically complex structures. On request, the forged components can also undergo further processing at Hirschvogel, for example by means of stamping or machining operations, or we can coat the parts before they are supplied to our customers in the ready-for-assembly state.

Cool Innovation – The “Flex Cooling Power Module” Concept

Our new “Flex Cooling Power Module” concept is based on pin fin heat sinks, which, in addition to their outstanding material-related thermal conductivity, have a heat-dissipating effect due to their filigree cooling structure.

The system features cooling fields with parallel flow, in which coolant circulates through several channels, improving thermal performance and reducing flow resistance. As a result, the power module is cooled evenly and efficiently.
